Food Log.


Well, I'd never try to outrun anything -- stand and fight!  Like a man!

But the point is well taken.  I've been attempting to, not so much out-train a bad diet these last 5 weeks, as "Train hard, ignore diet, Look!  Beer!"  And it shows and feels it.

So, back to weekly food logs, tracking my intake, limiting unhealthier choices to once, maybe twice a week or special occasions.  Back to trying to lean out and slash some bodyfat.  

Onwards.


Nutritional Motivation/Nutrition is as big a deal as training.
"USA Today's For the Win is calling the Rock's daily meal plan -- for his role of as Hercules in Hercules: The Thracian War -- "INSANE." I'm not going to do that. Unless, of course, he's actually drinking lion's blood as a part of his daily routine, because that would be insane. The Rock is a big fucking guy, with globs of muscle. By my count, a 6' 5" guy, who weights 265lb. and works out every day requires over 4,000 calories just to maintain his body weight. So the fact that he eats more protein in one day than some people do in a week is not INSANE, it's maintenance. "Preserve the sexy at all costs" is what my grandmother said to me right before she died."

"...the reconciliation process has made little headway. Liberia’s peace appears to stem instead from a deep-seated weariness of violence and the presence of a large UN peacekeeping force.

Four years ago, Liberia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) released a series of recommendations on measures for national reconciliation, justice and wide-ranging institutional reform to address the causes and consequences of the conflict. Yet until now little has been done to implement them, partly because some of those recommended for prosecution or disbarment from public office, including Nobel Laureate President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, remain in positions of power and influence.

 One of those recommended for prosecution, Prince Johnson, the senator for Nimba Country who finished in third place in the last presidential poll, stands accused by the report of “killing, extortion, massacre, destruction of property, forced recruitment, assault, abduction, torture & forced labor [and] rape”. The TRC also requests that he account for “the remains of the late President [Doe], especially the skull of the head of the President which was occasionally displayed by Hon. Johnson as a `war trophy’.”

James Yarsiah is the chairman of the Transitional Justice Working Group, a civil society initiative monitoring Liberia’s peace process. “I don’t want tomorrow another group of Liberians to crawl from the mountains and the bushes… because the guys who did it before are honourables and dignitaries now,” he told IRIN. “What kind of a message does that send?” "

...Prominent among the institutional shortcomings often blamed for Liberia’s civil wars are a deeply flawed justice system, the over-centralization of power and wealth among Monrovia’s Americo-Liberian elite, widespread corruption, tensions over land rights and high levels of poverty and unemployment. These problems largely persist. The justice system remains inefficient and inaccessible for many Liberians. Power and wealth are still concentrated in the capital, Monrovia. Corruption remains widespread, as underscored by a recent audit report by accountancy firm Moore Stephens, which showed that only two of 68 land concessions since 2009 had been awarded in compliance with Liberian law.

"I tried to do what I always did when life got stressful – I trained. Normal types might scoff at the notion of hitting the gym with so much shit going on, but they aren't seeing the big picture – or at least my big picture. I don't punish myself with drop-sets and high-rep squats to build muscle. I do it to kill my demons. We all have demons inside of us. Some have more than others, and some guys can deal with them better than the next...

So I smash my demons. I crush them under PR's. And if I'm too fucked up to train heavy, I torch them with extended sets, rip them apart with rest pauses and drop sets, and then chase them away with whatever fucked-up finishing exercise I can think of. The demons always come back, mind you, but as long as I have a key to my gym I can stay one step ahead...

When setting goals, keep your goal specific to yourself and a select few. Keep your goal general to all others. In other words, if your goal is to bench 400 pounds, keep that as a marker in your mind, but if others ask just tell them, "I'm training for a bigger bench," or "I'm working toward a new PR." Your goal may be to get your body fat down to 6%, but all the masses need to know is, "I'm dieting right now." The reason for this is simple: 90% of everyone you meet are negative pricks who will go out of their way to tell you why you can't do something. Once they know your goal, they'll try and tear you down. Just keep it vague, and all they can do is wish you success. Of course, they may still try to tear you down once you've actually accomplished your goal, but who cares. You've done the work and have the results to show for it. They couldn't have done it. 

So fuck 'em."

"Around this time, I ventured into the paleo lifestyle and it made more sense to me, but like most people, I was scared to start eating that much fat in my diet (no matter if it was healthy or not). So, I introduced certain ideas from the paleo plans into my life slowly. I started eating more organic meat, avocados, nuts, and eggs. The problem was that I still had grains, legumes, soy, and sweeteners in my diet. After a few more months, I read somewhere that the paleo diet was actually credited with helping some people with eating disorders to overcome them. Maybe this was the golden ticket I was looking for? I began to realize that living healthy wasn’t just about eating healthy and working out. It was a complete behavior shift. I suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (not OCD), so I tend to be perfectionistic and rigid in my way of living anyways. My goal has been to accept myself the way that I am and have more compassion for myself when I fail and allow my life to just flow instead of being scheduled all of the time."
