"Flash! A-Ah! Savior of the Universe!"

I'll always love this flick, for a bunch of reasons...  in hindsight, partly because of its campy awesomeness, with scenery chewing greatness from such greats as Max von Sydow, future James Bond Timothy Dalton and Brian Blessed.  But when I first saw it, when I was about 7-8 years old, given its 1980 release, all I probably dug on was the loud, bright, superheroic images and  music [By Queen, of course.]  And Ornella Muti as Princess Aura was probably one of my earliest "Wow, there's something interesting about girls..." rumblings.

Though mostly I'll always dig on this film because it's one of the few movies I remember seeing with my dad in the theaters when I was a kid.  And I have a pretty distinct memory of going out to play after the movie, singing the incredibly catchy theme song, jumping around like spastic monkey and trying to scale my dad's yellow Datsun.

[This bit of nostalgia brought to you by the recent post Flash Gordon's football fight (1980)
over at Boing Boing- where they made the astute comment "Flash Gordon is why America should get to make a Doctor Who movie."]

And this clip is made of  winning.
