Random Japanese parents give me things.
Biking home from the post office the other day and I'm flagged down by a Japanese lady on the side of the road. Turns out she's the mom of one of the kids I taught 3 and a half years ago, my first year in Japan, and she wanted tell me that her daughter started college this year [awesome, but I'm getting older, jeez] and she wanted to give me some free lettuce. It's strange, that first batch of kids I would have only taught for about 6 months before they graduated, and I didn't feel like I got to know them nearly as well as the kids I have in the intervening years. But they, and their parents, apparently, remember me. Way cool.
