Magic, in my experience, is about the enhancement of the existing superstructure of your life and choices. It is there to make your daily life more full. Not easier. Not “better,” in the sense of toward some end goal of “the good life.” Magic is redefinition, lies, deception, manipulation, companionship, brother- and sisterhood, parentage, kinship, hatred, compassion, and kicking the other fucker when they’re down. Magic, like technology, like science, like language, like art, like driving, can be dangerous, if done in a number of very certain ways. It is not, in itself, anything. It is nothing, until you put hands, mind, heart, brain to it. It is words and potential, in potential, meaning nothing, until it is made.
